This week lesson is all about the brand Lacoste
-
Lacoste is a French born company that was started in 1933 by French tennis stud Rene Lacoste. He was nicknamed the crocodile because of how he took care of business on the courts.
-
Speaking of TCB..in his career he has won 7 Grand Slams, Won the Davis Cup twice and was ranked the #1 player in the world in 1926-27
-
We all know about the iconic polo shirt that the brand has become known for...but did you know that they also produced the first steel tennis racket? They were wooden until Lacoste designed and got a patent on a steel tubular design. Sales were great but when Billie Jean King and Jimmy Connors chose to use them they skyrocketed.
-
When he first started the fashion line, they did not have an actual storefront. He chose to save the cash and do everything by catalog and word of mouth. You would order and he would ship it to your homes. Hmmm..well I guess my site and Lacoste have something in common here. No storefront and shipping is an everyday thing.
-
Lacoste was one of the very first clothing lines to put their logo branding on the outside of the item. Most designers never would have thought to put the brand on the outside. NOw you see it EVERYWHERE.
-
Rene Lacoste passed away in 1996 but family is still active in the brand to this day.
