One trend that never really goes out of style is and one that we keep seeing high and low: LEATHER. Leather never really goes out of style, but lately, it is everywhere. Leather everything. Jackets, pants, accessories, all of the above. I wouldn’t be surprised it they created leather hair extensions or something soon.
Today’s focus is how we can style this leather in a multitude of different ways.
DRESS IT UP
One of the easiest ways to dress up leather is for a night out on the town or a date night! Pair a simple pair of faux leather leggings (like the ones Spanx sells!) with heels and a pretty blouse for a night on the town. You’ll be sure to turn heads. This would go perfectly with that look.
MASCULINE AND FEMININE
Pair leather with clashing pieces such as a graphic tshirt and a blazer or a leather jacket with a skirt. The contrast is a beautiful song and somehow works so well. Another way you can do this is add a large button down blouse to leather leggings or a leather skirt. I liked this skirt from our shop for this look.
FULL GRUNGE
Faux leather in a classic black can really elevate a look. Think rock concert vibes! Add some cute combat boots and some pretty metallic jewelry to enhance the leather look. Check out this great bracelet from our store here!
COLORED LEATHER
Something unique about this trend that we’ve seen popping up is something we haven’t seen in a long time: colored faux leather. Rust, jewel tones and other colored leather has been popping up everywhere. This allows the leather to really act more as a statement accessory than an article of clothing.
CONTRASTING SHAPES
Kind of similar to what we were talking about earlier, another way that is so great for faux leather is contrasting shapes. Leather shorts or leather leggings pair well with a huge baggy sweater. A leather jacket can pair so well with a big flowy skirt. This sweater would do the trick!
ACCESSORIZE
A great way to introduce yourself to faux leather products is through accessories. A faux leather bag or a belt are the most popular. Maybe you can take a baggy dress and cinch it with a big leather belt to make a statement. An all black outfit with a red leather bag and red pumps would definitely make a statement as well. You don’t need your garments to be bold in order to make your outfit loud!
Overall, leather is a really fun statement that has so many purposes because it can look so chic and playful. Whether you’re making a huge statement with some colored leather or you’re more into a look that muted with a belt accessories, there’s a way for you that will work.
Ethics
Something to keep in mind is to use humane leather products and the ethics involved. Although vegan leather exists, most vegan leather nowadays is made from polyurethane (PU), a plastic-based synthetic manufactured from fossil fuels that takes a long time to break down once it reaches the end of its useful life. This makes it not that eco-friendly. There are some “ethical” leather companies that will utilize an animal after they die naturally, so that they’re not bred for leather production, making the product more sustainable. No matter your preference, the process is something to keep in mind.
